Bill was born on November 3, 1932 in Cleveland, GA.He is survived by his wife of 60 years Janette Witcher Potts of Piedmont, SC; his daughter Jill Perry and granddaughter Laura Perry of Piedmont, SC; Grandson William Jay McCutcheon (Kaitland) of Charleston, SC; Brother M. Robert (Sue) Potts of Monroe, NC; and niece Mary E. Thompson of KY. In-laws are Bobby (Darlene) Witcher, FL; Jane (Jim) Winn, GA; Nieces: Holly (Steve) Chaffin, Sonya Witcher, and Melanie (Rob) Brunel of GA; Nephew: Bryan (Jondra) Witcher, GA; 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews of GA. Bill is preceded in death by his parents William T. and Dolly Hester Potts, and his mother and father in-law Geneva and Hoyt Witcher. Sisters: Eloise (Skip) Blankship, Mary Lou (Joe) Alito, Ella Peal, Betty Jane (George) Griffin, and nephew Mark Winn. Bill attended Avondale High School and West Georgia College. He received an LLB degree from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, GA. His career in law enforcement began with the Dekalb Co., GA Police Department where he worked for twelve years as a patrolman and detective.In 1965, Bill became a United States Secret Service Agent in the Atlanta field office. His 27 year career as a United States Secret Service Special Agent spanned the years from presidents Lyndon B. Johnson to George H. Bush. Bill was transferred to Washington, DC twice: to Richard Nixon’s Presidential White House Detail, and to The State Department with the Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. Special Agent Potts worked in the New Orleans field office, and was the agent in charge of the Chattanooga office.He retired in 1992 while working in Greenville, SC. Throughout his career he received many commendations:
From the U.S. District Court of the District of SC, “in recognition of dedicated service to the United States Government with loyalty and integrity in the performance of his duties.”
From the Director of the United States Secret Service, U.S. Department of the Treasury he received a letter of recognition for distinguished service for the U.S. government.

In retirement, Bill focused his energy, loyalty, and strong work ethic on caring for his family and his farm. His interest in farming began in childhood and was a continuity throughout his lifetime.
