Charles E. Tinsley, Sr., was born July 8, 1930 and passed away Monday, December 26, 2011. Charles was the fourth son of the late David A. "Dave" and Aleen Ellison Tinsley. He was married to the love of his life, Frances Powell Tinsley for fifty-nine years.

After school, he was on the crew that remodeled houses at Alice and Arial Mills. Mr. Tinsley then entered the US Air Force and retired after more than twenty years of service. He served during the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis and served three years as NEOIC of the 14th AF Stan/Eva Team and evaluated all the radar sites in the South Eastern United States. Of all his awards, he was most proud of the four Air Force Commendation Medals.

After retirement, Mr. Tinsley worked twenty-four years with Independent Life Insurance Company as agent and staff sales manager.


He served twenty years on the Easley City Council and was proud of the accomplishments made during his tenure. Mr. Tinsley loved his hometown and enjoyed serving the people.


He was formerly an active member of Park Street Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, vice chairman, teacher, Training Union Director and chairman of the Building Committee. When Park Street was renovated in the 1980�??s, he moved his membership to Rock Springs Baptist Church where he was a member of the Disciples for Christ Class.

Mr. Tinsley was a life member of Bates Masonic Lodge #189 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, Mr. Tinsley is survived by a son, Chuck Tinsley (Sue); two daughters, Terri French (Phil) and Linda Newton (Don), all of Easley; six grandchildren, Jennifer Chastain, Amanda Issac, John French, Julie Essary, Evan Newton and Edie Newton; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack Tinsley of Liberty and Tommy Tinsley of Pickens. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tinsley was predeceased by three brothers, Ellison Tinsley, Dixon Tinsley and David Austin "Booter" Tinsley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Dr. David Gallamore and Rev. Walt Sweet officiating. Private entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 AM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642 or the charity of one�??s choice.

The family is at the home of Terri and Phil French, 201 Haverhill Circle, Easley, SC 29642.
