Charles Edwin Watson, 80, a native of Easley, and beloved husband of Joyce Worthy Watson, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, in the Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Florida. He was a son of the late Thurman Jackson and Ruth Gentry Watson.

He attended Easley High School and was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He joined the U.S. Army when seventeen, advanced through the enlisted ranks, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1968, having served in Belgium, France, Germany, Korea, Iran, and a number of assignments in the United States.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennie Gariepy and her husband, Don, of Reidsville, Georgia; a son, David Watson and his wife, Angie, of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren Marol LaPine, Heather McCoy, Hannah Gariepy, Scott Pagac and David, Dustin, Jodi, and Courtney Watson and four great-grandchildren. Two sisters also survive him, Katherine Wolfe of Columbia and Nell Stewart of Greenville. A daughter, Tera Pagac of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a brother, Curtis C. Watson, of Easley predeceased him.

Memorial services with military honors will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2006, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 200 East Church Road, Easley. Burial will be in the church cemetery with visitation to follow in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the Fairview Cemetery Fund c/o Sherrie Holland, 315 Hall Road, Easley, SC 29642.
