Charlotte Maude Hodges Garner, 98, of Clemson, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024.
She has now rejoined her beloved husband Warren Edwin Garner in the afterlife.
A native of Oconee, Georgia, she was the last surviving member of the family of Lucian Adams Hodges and Leila Brown Hodges. She was pre-deceased by five brothers and two sisters, all of whom she adored.
Maude and Warren were married in 1950 and lived in Athens, Georgia for five years before moving to Clemson, South Carolina in 1955 where eight years later, they were blessed with the much anticipated arrival of a precious daughter, Jan Hodges Garner.
Maude was a longtime member of Clemson United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time and talents regularly. She was also a charter member of the Cherokee Garden Club, a former member of the Clemson Newcomers Club, the Clemson University Women’s Club, and several bridge clubs where her skills were rarely surpassed.
In 1973, she and Warren moved to Leland, Mississippi where she became an integral part of the community and more importantly, learned to make her delicious friendship bread which she baked and shared with friends and family routinely for the next fifty years. Upon retirement, the Garner’s left their Mississippi friends and moved back to their home in Clemson where Maude delighted those around her with her quick wit and kind heart and she continued to make the most of every day of her long and productive life. She was a remarkable woman and exemplar role model.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Oden and husband Bill of Wilmington, NC, five precious grandchildren; Charlotte Elizabeth Oden, William Kellam Oden IV (Jordan), Mary Garner Oden, John Warren Oden, James Lawson Oden, and a host of nieces and nephews.
