Cheryl Elaine Smart Schafer, 77, wife of John Judson Schafer, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, July 6, 2023. 

Born in Seattle Washington, she was a daughter of the late William Roscoe Smart and Laverna Muriel Panleen Smart. 

Cheryl was a retired nursing assistant, and was a member of United Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed crocheting all kinds of things, and completing cross word puzzles. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Karl F. Burkett Jr. of Easley; daughters Karla Elaine Burkett-Cook of Kansas, Crystal Dawn Goebel-Yoder of Oklahoma, Mary B. Pennington of Easley, and Lisa R. Schafer-Boyce of Lugoff, SC; her grandchildren, Emily Nicole Ziezmer, Austin Cook, Madison Cook, Ian Rochon, Scotty Boon, Marlene A. Pennington, John W. Pennington, and Grace E. Burkett; and a sister Muriel Terresa Smart-Toole of Fairbanks, Alaska. 

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her brother Harry Alfred Smart. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
