Christine Howell Hepfer

Christine passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Born December 8, 1949 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Annie Laurie Daniels Howell and Luther Cameron Howell, Jr.

She graduated from AC Flora High School in 1968 and Winthrop College in 1971 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Christine, was a teacher to K-2 students and an avid volunteer, always asking “How can I help?” Many days while her daughters were growing up were spent distributing girl scout cookies, performing in the Junior League History Puppet Show, being homeroom mom, serving as PTO president, chairing committees for the SC Medical Auxiliary, hosting PEO meetings, coordinating Wednesday night suppers at Trinity United Methodist Church, organizing school Halloween Carnivals, and helping the high school choir – to only name a few. 

Christine loved dogs, horses, quilting, reading, Lake Keowee, Litchfield Beach and most of all her family.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Thomas W. Hepfer; and their children, Holly Hepfer Reed (Abe) and Ellen Hepfer Breazel (Eric) both of Clemson, SC; Four adored grandchildren Lance Thomas Reed, Lillian Christine Reed, Brody Daniels Breazel, and Boyd Robert Breazel all whom affectionally called her “Kissy”; Sister, Marjorie H. Donaldson (Col. Benjamin L. [Ret.]); Stepmother, Clarice M. Howell; and beloved nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by her brother Luther Cameron “Cam” Howell III (Elizabeth), and her sister Mary Ellen Judson (Paul). 

A Memorial Service for Christine Howell Hepfer will be held at Clemson United Methodist Church at 3 PM, Sunday, January 19, 2025, followed by receiving friends. As a tribute to Christine, the family invites you to wear blue to the service, her favorite color.
