Ruth Smith Clemens

Clara Ruth Smith Clemens, 93, wife of Jack Carey Clemens, went to be with the Lord and Savior, Tuesday, April 22, 2026.

Born in Walhalla, SC, she was the youngest and last to pass of ten children from the late Dillard Smith and Betty Justice Smith.

Ruth retired from Clemson University where she worked as a clerk for the Graduate School. She was a proud woman of faith who was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church for many years. She also loved spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren, creating many meaningful memories with them. Her spirit was always warm and welcoming of everyone she met and loved everyone.

In addition to her beloved husband of over 78 years, Ruth is survived by her son John Clemens; her daughter Vickie Shultzaberger; her grandchildren Jonathan, Andrea, Jason, Joey, Kristen, and Laurie; and her great-grandchildren Addelyn, Andrew, Chloe, Dash, Ellie, Jackson, Mallory and Zoey.

A graveside Service in honor of Ruth will be held 10:30 A.M. April 29 at Old Stone Church Cemetery, 101 Stone Cir, Clemson, SC 29631.
