Clarence H. "Womp" Lomas

February 11, 1940 — March 8, 2021

Clarence Harmon Lomas, Jr., 81, known to all as Womp, short for Wompas Cat, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at his residence in Seneca.

He was the son of the Late Clarence Harmon Lomas, Sr. and Cortez Wilson Lomas of Pendleton. He was a career employee of Clemson University, where he retired June 24, 1988 as the Manager of Canteens and Concessions.

He is survived by a son Stephen Lomas and wife, Melissa Queen Lomas; two daughters, Susan Lomas Holcombe and husband, Robert Holcombe, Jr., Sandy Lomas and Johnny Jones; his companion of 20 years Brenda Smith, her daughter Mary Ella Smith; five grandchildren, Captain Carson Lomas, USAF, Turner Lomas, Matthew Kelly and wife, Casey, Staff Sergeant Jordan Kelly, USAF, and Natalie Huitt and husband, C.J. Huitt; great grandchildren, Cade Kelly and Johnny Huitt.

Womp was a proud and loving father and grandfather. He was dedicated to his work, where he managed the Clemson University Canteen, which many will remember as the popular short order restaurant in the Johnstone Hall Student Union. He also supervised and managed concessions for all Clemson University Athletic events. He was dedicated to Clemson Athletics as a manager and also as fan. He continued to support Clemson Athletics through IPTAY and by attending Football, Basketball and Baseball games. He was a dedicated son, who took care of his mother, living with her so she could spend her last years at home. He was a dedicated friend who would always lend a helping hand. Most of all, he was a dedicated father and grandfather, who always provided for his children and grandchildren and looked after their well-being. He answered every need or call for help with generosity and selflessness. Even late in life, he could always be relied upon for love and support. He loved friends and family. He loved to watch his grandsons play sports, sometimes attending a game everyday during football and baseball season. And everyone who knew him knows he loved to drive.

He enjoyed living, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and caring. He will be greatly missed even as he lives on in our hearts and memories.
