Robert Tarrant "Country" Harrison, age 86, husband of the late Olive Sims Harrison, died March 1, 2009.

Born in Bradley, SC on July 3, 1922, he was one of six sons born to the late Wade Cothran Harrison and Lucia Hughey "Dolly" Harrrison. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1940. He was a member of the Clemson University Class of 1944. He received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1947 after returning to Clemson from service in the United States Army. During World War II, he saw action as a paratrooper in the Philippines.

Country began his working career as a territorial salesman for Johns-Manville building products. In 1962 he bought a share in Greenville Roofing Company, where he eventually became President. He served in the Carolina Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association as President in 1973 and received the George M. Waters Distinguished Service Award in 1983. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Roofing Contractors Association in 1977 and in 1982. He served on nine committees for the NRCA, including education, public relations, planning and internal affairs. He was elected to two terms as a Vice President for the NRCA, one term as a Senior Vice President, and was elected NRCA President in 1985. In 1993 he received the NRCA's J.A. Piper Award in recognition for his "devoted and constant outstanding service to the roofing industry".

Country served in other organizations, including the Roofing Industry Education Institute, the Koppers Advisory Council, the Contracts Guide Advisory Board and the Carolina Roofing Self Insured Fund.

Country was a past president of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, the Greenville Touchdown Club and the Greenville Country Club. He was a lifelong member and supporter of Clemson's IPTAY organization. He joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Greenville in 1951, where he remained a member until his death.

In addition to his wife and parents, Country was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Sims Harrison, and three brothers, Wade C. Harrison, Jr., John Perrin Harrison and William Henry Harrison. Surviving are two daughters, Ann Harrison Woolston of Bradley, SC and Linwood Harrison Tabata of Glendale, CA, three grandsons, Robert Harrison Woolston, John Cothran Woolston and Harrison Daniel Tabata, and two brothers, Frank E. Harrison and James H. Harrison.

The family will receive visitors at Country's home on 20 West Prentiss Avenue from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. A memorial service will be held in Greenville in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a private family graveside service at Horeb Church in Bradley.
