With heavy hearts and loving memories, we mark the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Burton, 67, of Woodruff, SC, who left us on July 11, 2026. Born on September 24, 1958, in Gastonia, NC, to Lucien and Muriel Hartsell, Cindy’s life was woven from laughter, adventure, and unfailing devotion to those she loved.

Cindy’s journey through life was characterized by resilience and versatility. She held many jobs over the years, from driving trucks to working at BMW manufacturing cars, a role she held for many years. Through all her endeavors, Cindy exemplified strength and determination, always finding ways to provide not only for herself but, most importantly, to give her family the gift of stability.

Beyond her professional achievements, Cindy possessed a warmth and spark that filled every room she entered. Never one to shy away from a good laugh, Cindy had a penchant for a shocking joke and delighted in seeing her humor surprise and entertain those around her. At home, she treasured quiet moments unwinding with her favorite shows, Gunsmoke, MASH, and The Andy Griffith Show.

Those who shared a table with Cindy remember her chicken and dumplings and her signature yellow cake. The aroma of coffee or a bubbling can of Coca-Cola was never far, and music filled her home: Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor- the soundtrack of road trips and impromptu family adventures in a BMW she’d earned the right to borrow for weekends away. Cindy’s greatest joy was not just the destination, but the journey: a drive to the beach on a whim, a mountain morning sunrise, laughter echoing from the backseat from her children. Cindy loved a good road trip.

No wall could contain Cindy's ability to connect. Holidays and parties found her vibrant and alive, a true social butterfly, turning strangers into friends with nothing but a smile and a story. Evenings spent out saw Cindy somewhere across the room, talking with someone new. Her friendships were as diverse as her interests; her heart was always open to the world.

Cindy’s compassion knew no bounds; her deep love for animals, especially horses and dogs, was visible to all. She cared for every creature, great and small, preferring to rescue spiders or any tiny being that crossed her path rather than cause them harm. Cindy had a remarkable green thumb; her sunroom once overflowed with thriving plants, each lovingly tended. She found peace in her garden, and the beauty she created there reflected the care she showed in all aspects of life.

Cindy is survived by her children, Jess Burton (Courtnie Adams), Rider Burton, and Adrienne Burton; her grandchildren, Kyler Burton and Leo Vanderford; her siblings, David Hartsell (Sherry), Cathy Patton, and Laura Hartsell; as well as her nieces and nephews, Katie Rogers, Amber, Tessnear, April Tessnear, Amy Hartsell, Gracen Ruffino, and Jonathon Hartsell.

The family will host a celebration of her life at a later date.

Though Cindy’s physical journey has ended, the memories she created, her energy, her stories, and her laughter will resonate in the lives of all who loved her. Those who experienced her love and her humor carry forward her extraordinary spirit.
