Cynthia Fentress Mumford, 72, of Easley, wife of the late Johnnie "Randy" Cleveland Mumford, Jr., passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Barbara Thayer Fentress and was of the Christian faith.
She was an active member of Tri-County Business & Professional Women of Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties. She was a member of St. Andrew Methodist Church of Easley, SC.
Cynthia had a remarkable talent for bringing people together. She truly enjoyed entertaining her close group of friends, often hosting gatherings that were filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and an abundance of love. Her home was a sanctuary of joy, where everyone felt welcomed and cherished, a true reflection of her generous spirit.
She had a heartfelt passion for kittens and cats, finding immense joy in their playful antics and comforting companionship. Her commitment to these furry friends extended beyond mere enjoyment; she volunteered her time fostering numerous cats, ensuring they received the care and love they needed until they found their forever homes. This dedication reflected her compassionate nature and her desire to make a difference in the lives of those around her.
She became well known for her remarkable talent for creating handmade greeting cards, each adorned with artistry that reflected her vibrant spirit. Friends and family cherished the personal touch she infused into every card, making every birthday, holiday, and just-because moment even more special. To receive one of Cynthia's creations was to receive a piece of her heart, a reminder of how deeply she cared.
Cynthia is survived by her son, Michael "Scott" Mumford; a brother, Paul Fentress; many nieces and nephews; numerous dear friends; and her adored cats, California Grace, Boy, Simon, & Calliope.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Brandi Michelle Mumford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Greenville County Animal Care at 328 Furman Hall Rd, Building A, Greenville, SC 29609, or at https://www.greenvillecounty.org, where Cynthia fostered kittens and cats in preparation for their adoptable homes.
Cynthia filled the world with laughter and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Cynthia's legacy will be carried on by the love and cherished memories she created with those closest to her. She will be profoundly missed by her friends who were blessed to share in moments of joy and laughter, and by all whose lives she touched. In an ever-changing world, Cynthia remained a steadfast presence of kindness, compassion, and cheer. Her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known her.
