Townville, S.C.

Dale Lee Handlin, 79, husband of Willa Thompson Handlin, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at his residence. A native of Ellsworth County, Kansas he was the son of the late Frank and Hester Lang Handlin. He graduated from Kansas State University, and received his Masters Degree from Texas A & M University. He was an Associate Professor in Animal Science at Clemson University for 37 years. He especially enjoyed working with students and was the faculty advisor of the Judging Team and the Block & Bridle Club for many years. He was the director of the Swine Center and oversaw the moving of the center when Hartwell Lake was built. He was also a long-time member of the American Angus Society.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son, Dale L. Handlin, Jr. and wife Danita of Shelby, NC; daughter, Janet Martin and husband John of Atlanta, GA; brother: Ralph Handlin of Orongo, MO and Max Handlin of Windfield, KS; sisters: Fae Wade of Westminster and Alice Golladay of Osborne, KS and grandchildren: Theresa and Andrew Martin and Alexandra Handlin. He was predeceased by brothers: Paul, Robert, Roy and Ben Handlin.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 2pm in the Zion United Methodist Church on Rt. 187 in Anderson preceded by a committal service at 1:30pm in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Christian Life Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Heifer International, PO Box 8058, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203-8058 or the Zion United Methodist Church, 5708 Wild Hog Road (Rt. 187), Anderson, SC 29625.
