Dale “Hop” Hayes
December 8, 1958 – July 22, 2025
Dale Hayes, lovingly known as “Hop,” passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. He was 66 years old.
Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, and a longtime resident of Powdersville, Hop built a life centered around family, laughter, and the simple joys most people overlook. He worked for many years at Michelin before earning his CDL and driving for Republic Services — where he later advanced to the role of logistics analyst, bringing both heart and intelligence to his work.
Hop was known for his gentle spirit, goofy sense of humor, and unwavering positivity. He had a gift for finding light in the ordinary — a good song on the radio, a silly joke, a quiet afternoon with his family. If you knew him, you probably saw that familiar thumbs-up more times than you can count.
He was loved by so many for his kind and steady soul. His smile lit up a room, and his presence brought calm wherever he went. He didn’t need to be the loudest voice in the room to be the one everyone listened to — he led with humility, patience, and love.
He adored soulful music, had a special place in his heart for eagles, and often drew strength from his favorite Bible verse:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Hayes; his daughter Jenn Brackett and her husband Derek; his grandchildren Maddie and Ty Brackett, who were his greatest pride and joy; his parents Curtis and Effie Hayes; and his brother Nathan Hayes. His legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength will live on in each of them.
A celebration of Hop’s life will be held privately by his family, just as he would’ve wanted — full of good music, shared stories, and the kind of love that never ends.
