Dr. Dan Smith

Dr. Daniel "Dan" B. Smith, 70, of 403 Inverness Way, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at his home.
Born in Monroe County, AL, a son of the the late Alton G. and Estelle McNiel Smith, Dr. Smith received his BS Degree from Auburn University, his MS Degree from the University of Tennessee, and his PhD from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Smith retired from Clemson University as Dean and Director of the Cooperative Extension Service after serving thirty years as an agricultural economist.
He was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Easley, where he was a Deacon Emeritus and was serving as a Sunday School teacher and an intercessor in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Tyree Smith of the home; a son, Nathan B. Smith (Kim) of Tifton, GA; a daughter, Stephanie C. Smith of the home; a brother, David N. Smith (Ginger) of Richmond, VA; and two grandsons, Douglas J. Smith and Daniel N. Smith; nephews, James Smith, Jr., Niel Smith and Jayson Smith; and a niece, Natalie Lavender. In addition to his parents, Dr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, James A. Smith .
A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Easley, with Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at noon Thursday where the family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. in the church narthex, prior to the service.
