DAVID I. PURSER, III

David Ingram Purser, III, 92, died Thursday, January 21, 2009 at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, GA. A native of Gadsen, AL he was the son of the late David I. and Annie Williamson Purser, Jr. He was an English Professor at Clemson and Western Carolina Universities. He was a graduate of Furman University and received his MA degrees from Duke University and Middlebury College. He was a former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pendleton and was a retired Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserve and was a veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sara Steele Purser and is survived by son David I. Purser, IV and his wife Ellen of Lawrenceville, GA; and daughter, Sara Goodman of Georgetown, TX; grandsons, Eric Purser, John David Purser, Wallis Goodman and Andrew Goodman and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also predeceased by wife Sara Murray Purser and survived by her children Julie Rice of Decatur, GA, Vincent Murray of Augusta, GA and Peter Murray of Fayetteville, NC; and grandsons Nathaniel and Adam Murray.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3:30pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard in Pendleton, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096.
