David L. Provencher
Central, SC
David Lucas Provencher, 80, of Central SC and formerly of Hampstead NH passed away at his
home on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
David was born on April 4, 1943 in Sanford, Maine and grew up in Westbrook, Maine. He served
as an alter boy at St. Mary's Church in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School.
After graduation, David attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force as a Radio Relay Equipment Rapairman. He was
a former Field Technician with Honeywell Bull, where he earned many certificates of
achievement for additional related business courses.
David enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved fishing and hunting. He was a true football fan
and was blessed to have an opportunity to go to his first Clemson Tiger football game where he
enjoyed all of the homecoming festivities on October 7th. He also enjoyed all electronics and
especially computers. David loved being with his family and spending time with them. He
especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
As a young boy, David and his family lived on Chebeague Island, Maine where he developed a
love for the ocean. He and his two younger sisters and their dog, Butch would go clamming on
the shores of the island. David trained Butch that when he pointed his foot at a certain spot
where there were bubbles in the sand, Butch would dig up the clam. They would bring the fresh
clams home in the red wagon and have steamers for supper. The clam shells were used in the
driveway. And, as the story goes, a visit to the island many years later by Dave and his son,
Lucas, the old home was worn and weathered; but the shell driveway was still intact! As a
young man, he enjoyed scuba diving and sailing up and down the coast of Maine and around the
many local islands in his 22 foot sailboat.
David was the son of the late Lucien Eugene and Florence Josephine Gagne Provencher. He is
survived by his wife Kathleen (Cronin) Provencher of Central SC; son Michael Provencher of
Copperas Cove TX; son David Lucas Provencher, Jr. and his wife, Vicki of Manchester NH; and
