Dean McFall

June 19, 1940 — February 8, 2015

Dean McFall, 74, husband of Jacqueline S. McFall, of 323 Meldau Rd, died Sunday February 8, in his home. In addition to his wife Jacqueline, Dean is survived by four children and ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 14, at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be directed to the Golden Corner Food Pantry (http://goldencornerpantry.org) or to the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church for the Mission Endowment Fund (www.forthillchurch.org) in memory of Dean McFall.

Raised in East Orange NJ, Dean was a city boy who learned to love the country life, but he never learned to shoot a gun properly despite attempting for years to eradicate the groundhogs from his garden. Following the example of his own father, Dean taught his young children to greet him by attaching themselves to his legs. Frequently, the source of commotion could be traced to Dean who delighted in wrestling, tickling, teasing and chasing his children, and later grandchildren, about the house. Knowing full well that he was tone deaf, Dean sang loudly in church. He believed it was the duty of those in the surrounding pews to drown him out. Dean was an avid swimmer who made a standing offer of $50 to any child or grandchild who could beat him in a one mile race. None ever collected.

Dean attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA where he was elected student body president and chaired a committee that established the institution's honor code. Dean began his career as a journalist, and he ended it as associate vice president for University Relations and director of Public Affairs at the University of Central Florida before retiring to Seneca.

Dean spent a lifetime in the service of others. He was a regular volunteer at Our Daily Bread and the Golden Corner Food Pantry in Seneca as well as Meals on Wheels in Clemson.

In June, 2013, Dean and Jacqueline celebrated their golden anniversary. He was a loyal and devoted husband. During his long battle with cancer, Dean told his children that he had no regrets save one: that he would be leaving his love, their mother, too soon.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central which is assisting the family.
