Sandra Deborah “Debbie” Barnes, 76, of Easley, wife of Rex Carlton Barnes, Sr., passed away Monday, July 7, 2025. 

Born November 27th, 1948, in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Bolt William Smith and Leota Masters Smith. 

Debbie was a 1967 graduate of Easley High School. She worked for a time at Eads Funeral Home in Liberty, but left to raise her two children at home. She founded the Pickens County Rape Crisis Center in 1985 and served as its Director for many years, being a voice for the vulnerable and advocating fiercely for those in need. 

She was a member of Easley First Baptist Church and lived out her faith in all she did. She enjoyed and created beauty in many forms, whether in needlework, arranging flowers, or making wreaths for family and friends. More than her hobbies, however, she poured her faith, energy, and love into her family. Many more knew her love through her food and her constant presence and support for anyone who needed it. 

She leaves behind a legacy of love in her husband of 58 years, Rex; her children, Rex Carlton Barnes, Jr., and Allison Rebecca Barnes, both of Easley; and her cherished granddaughters, Ashlyn Kinsela (Don), Alexis Barnes, and Abigail Schubert. Her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Arabella Kinsela, brought her immense joy. Each of them loved and miss their “Mimi.” Also surviving are her sister, Carol S. Garrison of Easley, and her brother, Tony M. Smith of Central. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Benjamin Smith. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, 305 W. Main Street, Easley, SC 29640.

A private family service will be held.
