Della R. Kline
Clemson, SC
Della May Rolston Kline passed into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2023. A native of West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Garland and Ethel Richardson Rolston.
Della attended business school and worked in Washington, D.C., as a congressional secretary. It was during this time that she attended a USO dance where she met a charming fellow, Roger. After a whirlwind romance, the two were married in a triple wedding surrounded by their friends and congressional colleagues at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation.
Shortly after marriage, Della followed Roger to Minnesota where they made their home and raised two beloved daughters, Gretchen and Carol. Even after her girls were married with children, Della continued to be a most supportive mother and friend.
Following Roger’s retirement as a supervisory electrician at General Mills Roger J. Bell Research Center, the two settled in South Carolina where their days were spent investing in their family and friends.
Della always had a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humor. She was known for her competitive spirit during a game of Rook with the grandchildren. She always gave the gift of time and a wise, listening ear to her family.
She is survived by her two daughters: Gretchen Campbell and husband, Bert of Clemson and Carol Sute, and husband, Jerel; grandchildren, Carrie Smetana, Rachael Wilson, Monroe Campbell, Allison Morris, Sarah Ledbetter, Kyle Sute, Rachel Reynolds, Joseph Sute and Hannah Sute; and 16 great grandchildren.
In her final days, she expressed, “I have the best family.” Those left behind would echo that we were blessed to have her as part of our lives.”
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kline was predeceased by brothers, John William Rolston, Richard Garland Rolston and Roger Emerson Rolston; and a sister Gladys Evelyn Hancock.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2023 at University Baptist Church in Clemson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Mrs. Kline will be entombed with her husband at Memory Gardens Mausoleum as a private family service.
While we have great sorrow in her absence, we can echo with the psalmist that Della is experiencing fullness of joy in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11, ESV)
