Della G. Waldrop
Liberty, SC
Della Gilstrap Waldrop, 81, wife of the late James E. Waldrop, met her Savior face to face on Sunday, February 10, 2019.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Morris Gilstrap and Beulah Capps Gilstrap who gave her a middle name we loved teasing her with.
Della was a faithful member of Park Street Baptist Church where she attended Sunday School and sang in the choir. Even when disease began taking her mind, it never claimed her desire to spend time with Jesus. At the Willows, you would typically find her with her Bible open in her lap. The caretakers used gospel music on their phones to calm her. Even when most words were gone, she still hummed her beloved hymns.
Della retired from Swirl Inc. where she met her faithful friend of over 50 years, Betty Hughes. They both knew the importance of not only having a friend but being one. Every Friday, you would find them together getting their hair done, eating and shopping. Oh, how they loved shopping. They were always so happy to be together. Even after Della sometimes forgot Betty's name, she still came and took her to lunch.
Della was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law (who she loved most), Donna and Johnny Sewell of Liberty; grandsons, Eric and Caroline Sewell and Christopher and Ginger Sewell all of Easley; five great grandchildren, Breeanna, Sydney, Mason, Blake and Gracen Sewell; a brother, Earl (Laura) Gilstrap of Easley; sisters, Maxine (Lloyd) Stephens of Easley and Gladys Jones of Goose Creek.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Angela Waldrop; her sisters, Annie Lou and Frances Gilstrap, Margaret Patterson and Fleda Forrest; and brothers, Doyle, Melvin, Buck and Lake Gilstrap.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. No formal visitation will be held but the family will be in the chapel prior to the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Women's Sunday School Class of Park Street Baptist Church.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
Condolences may be expressed online by visiting RobinsonFuneralHomes.com or in person at Robinson Funeral Home, which is assisting the family.
