Dorothy "DeV" DeVaughn Dent Doyle passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 8, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Dent, Douglas (Rita) Dent and stepchildren, Claudia Redfern, Gwen (Ron) Jones and Trish (Tom) Kossick.
DeV is predeceased by her parents, Marcellus and Mary DeVaughn, her brother, Jack DeVaughn, her daughter, Alison (Stephen) Kerrigan and two husbands, Sidney Dent and Gerald Doyle.
DeV attended Hathaway Brown School in Cleveland, OH, Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary.
DeV was active in Meals on Wheels, the Oconee Memorial Hospital and Habitat for Humanity. She particularly enjoyed reading weekly to the second grade class at the DAR School. She also worked with the Keowee Choraleers to create skits for their concerts and produced one of the first fund raising bazaars for the newly formed Blue Ridge Art Association. She belonged to a chapter of the Questers and to a neighborhood Bible study group. DeV retired to Clemson, but was still able to continue overseas and local travel and enjoy classes at OLLI. In 2005 she tried the adventure of skydiving and a reunion with her friend from Western Reserve University, Gerald Austin Doyle. They were married in 2006 and enjoyed a short but wonderful life. Jerry passed away in 2007.
At DeV's request, there will not be a public ceremony. A family ceremony will take place in Arizona at a later date.
