Delores Graham Campbell, 91, widow of Ray Campbell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, surrounded by loving family. Delores was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on April 10, 1931, the daughter of James Ernest and Ruth Davis Graham.
Delores grew up in South Mississippi, married Melvin Ray Campbell at the age of17, and moved to S.C. Though young, Ray asked her prior to marriage if she would be willing to serve as a pastor’s wife if he was called to ministry. After graduating from Furman University, they moved to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where she took organ lessons and became an accomplished organist. After graduation, they began their ministry that lasted 51 years and spanned Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina. Delores was actively involved in music, women and children’s ministries and diligently served the Lord. Above all, she was a precious mother to 3 children, in a home always filled with Godly grace, encouragement and love. Recently, the joy of her heart was her grand and great grandchildren, who also adored her.
Delores is survived by a son, M. Ray Campbell, Jr. (Debbie) of Anderson; two daughters, LaNell Andrews (Wm. E.) of Purvis, MS and Susan Leighton (Michael) of Clemson; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 12 th at the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in memory of Delores Campbell to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, and Gideons International.
