Lynnis Don Cheek, Sr., 88, of Goose Creek, SC, beloved husband of Barbara Motes Cheek, passed away on Friday February 6, 2026. Born in Yellville, AR, to the late Irvin Cheek and the late Eva Kyles Cheek, he was of Baptist faith.

Don graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Science. He took great pride in the education he received and utilized it fully in his career, contributing significantly to public safety. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 17 years, instilling in him a steadfast sense of duty and service, values he carried throughout his life.

Don dedicated much of his life to serving his community and protecting those around him. His professional career in law enforcement spanned 17 years, during which he worked with Berkeley County and the city of Goose Creek in SC, as well as Benton City and Benton County in Washington State, WA. His commitment to justice and community safety was further exemplified by his tenure with the Transportation Security Authority (TSA), from which he retired after many years of dedicated service.

Don had a passion for cars, enjoying the thrill and freedom that came with them. He also had a soft spot for toy poodles, finding joy in their companionship. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was his role as “Grandpa,” a title he cherished deeply.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by daughters, Brenda and Laura and sons, Don Jr. and Rodney.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by grandsons, Shawn (Kelly) and Scott (Jande); special son by love, Forest New; great- grandchild, Chloe; brothers, Verlon Ray (Kathy) and Jerry (Janice) and sister-in-law, Shirley (Dennis).

The family is planning a memorial service in Goose Creek, SC, to be held at a later date, details will be updated when arrangements are finalized.

As we remember Don Cheek, Sr., we celebrate a life filled with dedication, service, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten, inspiring all who had the privilege to know him.
