Don M. Ortino, Jr., age 96, of Easley, passed away peacefully on June, 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.


Don was born in Seneca Falls, NY on April 2, 1916 to Vito Michele Ortino and Fiorina Campeggia Ortino. He served in the Army during World War II, and retired as a Captain having proudly served his country for 14 years. Among his many duties were that of Artillery Instructor. Don began his telephone career in 1949 with NY Tel. He retired after 31 years of service with Southern Bell as a Senior Engineer in Long Range Planning.

He is survived by his wife Ann, his children Don M. Ortino, III (Audrey) of Pickens, SC; William R. Ortino (Liz) of Pickens, SC; Susan Knight of Coral Springs, FL; Donna Davis (Ted) of Pembroke Pines, FL and John L. Ortino of Alabaster, AL. His nine grandchildren Lauri Pepper (Russ) of Fredericksburg, VA; Don M. Ortino, IV (April) of Easley, SC; William R. Ortino, Jr. (Kseniya) of Bluffton, SC; Dr. Tiffany Knight (Dr. Jonathan Chase) of St. Louis, MO; Dr. Jennifer Knight (Dr. Chris DiGiorgio) of Hoboken, NJ; Adria Ortino of Boca Raton, FL; Jeff Ortino of Coconut Creek, FL; Jamie Ortino of Helena, AL and Angela Ortino of Calera, AL. His seven great-grandchildren Ashley Pepper, Naomi Ortino, Don M. Ortino, V, Autumn Ortino, Jack Chase, Sofia Ortino and Michela DiGiorgio. Don is also survived by his brother Leonard Ortino (Evangeline) of Muskegon, MI; and several nieces and nephews as well as cousins in France and Italy. Also surviving are step-sons Mark Hardin (Shanda) of Ramseur, NC and Jeff Hardin of Raleigh, NC; step-granddaughter Stephanie Hardin; step-granddaughter Angie Davis of Greensboro, NC; step-grandson SPC Joseph Hardin of Kabul, Afghanistan and twin step-grandsons Aaron and Matthew Hardin.


In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by brother Giovanni (Jack); sister Angelina (Ann) and brother Anthony (Cy).


The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Daniel Dahlhausen of Pickens, Dr. Reginald Brooker of Easley and Hospice Care of SC for their excellent care, devotion and love for Don during his illness.
