Donald Gene Anderson, born January 27, 1964, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026. Known affectionately as Donnie, his life was marked by faith and love for his family. He was a man full of humor with a big heart; a loving presence to those who knew him, and a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

A graduate of Saline High School, he was very popular and had many friends in his youth, many of whom he carried forward into his later years. He also met and married the love of his life, Beth Gorospe, very young, and they were blessed beyond words with the birth of their son, Gregory (Greg) Anderson. Donnie also had a passion for his time spent as a volunteer firefighter and police cadet as a younger man, and dedicated his professional life to service in law enforcement, environmental, and safety.

Becoming a Father was Donnie’s true calling in life, and he always made sure Greg was by his side throughout his childhood. Greg fondly remembers his dad as the King of Christmas, the creator of special memories and traditions that his son now treasures and passes down to his own children. A big kid and giver at heart, his grandchildren always remarked how funny he was and lit up the room every time he walked in, and he knew how to keep Christmas well.

Ever the jokester, Donnie’s playful spirit was a source of laughter and joy to friends and family alike. He was the guy everyone wanted to hang out with, full of funny jokes and good-natured pranks. Stubborn and headstrong at times, he embraced these traits with warmth and honesty, making him a truly genuine man to those around him.

In 2007, Donnie experienced a profound transformation when he found salvation in Jesus Christ and was baptized with his son and daughter-in-law present. This event forever marked him and brought focus and light into his later days. From then on, his faith became the cornerstone of his life, guiding his steps, enriching his relationship with his family, and deepening his love for his grandchildren.

Donnie’s testimony and fervent love for Jesus also gave Hope to his church, Second Chance Church, and those closest to him. As Donnie was speaking to his Pastor, Perry Noble, about his fight with cancer in his final weeks, he talked about his salvation and stated with boldness and spirit-filled conviction: “Don’t be sorry for me, I win either way.” Donnie knew he would either beat cancer or go home to see Jesus. Perry later remarked that the conversation wrecked him (in a good way), and with the kind of faith he has, he should have been the one praying over him. His legacy of faith, devotion, and family remains a lasting testament to the man he was.

Donnie’s love for adventure, freedom, and the open road found expression in his passion for riding his Harley, as he shared many memorable rides through the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains with his brother and nephew. Their annual trips to Spring Bike Week were a highlight for him, as they were a time filled with friendship, fun, and the simple joy of being together. Ever the giver, Donnie never missed a chance to ride in the annual Christmas Motorcycle Toy Run and collect toys for the kids. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed fishing and camping, and looked forward to the family camping trip with his son and grandkids every year.

Donnie’s memory lives on through those he loved, especially his son, grandchildren, and the family who gathered close to share his laughter, his strength, and the unbreakable bonds he created. While he may have been known for his jokes and mischief, at heart, he was a deeply spirit-filled and caring man whose love and hope was a steady anchor to those blessed to know him; having, himself, found “hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (Hebrews 6:19)

Donnie is survived by his son, Greg Anderson, and daughter-in-law, Annette; his grandchildren, Caira, Leena, and Andrew Anderson; his brother, James Anderson; and nephews Steven and Shaun Anderson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Dale Anderson and Charlotte Mary Anderson. Donnie shared a special connection with his mother, Charlotte Anderson, who passed shortly before him. Following his wishes, he will be laid to rest alongside her and his father, Frederick Dale Anderson, joining the two people he loved dearly.
