Easley, SC

Donna May Straight Medgyesy, 81, of Easley, wife of the late John William Medgyesy, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025. Born in Willoughby, OH to the late Harold Straight and the late Betty Waite Straight, she was of Methodist faith. A cherished matriarch and a devoted homemaker, Donna embodied the essence of love and nurturing, earning her the affectionate title of “everybody’s mom.”

Throughout her lifetime, Donna dedicated herself not only to her husband and her family but also to her community. She worked as a part-time real estate assistant, yet her heart belonged to her home, where she demonstrated her exceptional skills as a beloved homemaker and cook, often delighting those around her with the rich flavors of Hungarian meals prepared alongside her husband. Donna's kitchen was a sanctuary of warmth and togetherness, filled with aromas that lingered long after the last plate was cleared. Family time around the dinner table was cherished and the root of many memories.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Lana Loar.

As a matriarch with a great mother’s intuition, she was committed to guiding her family through life's trials and tribulations, imparting wisdom wrapped in affection.

A true selfless giver, Donna found immense joy in donating her time and efforts to local charities. Her unwavering commitment to philanthropy reflects the depth of her compassion as she sought to uplift those around her. She was more than a friend; she was a guiding light, a confidante, and an unwavering source of support.

In her leisure, Donna found solace in her garden, where her love for flowers flourished. She poured her energy into nurturing both her plants and her loved ones, creating a beautiful sanctuary that mirrored her own nurturing spirit. The joy she found in the simple pleasures of life was compounded by the love she had for her family and her pride in her role as a “Grandma,” a title she wore with honor. Her family was paramount to her and was the largest source of her happiness.

She is survived by sons, Andy Medgyesy and Matt Medgyesy (Kimberly), grandchildren, Owen, Audrey Lynn, Makenna, Hayden and Grayson Medgyesy, special cousins, Bobby and Linda Metelko and lifelong friends that became more like family, John and Jan Wargo.

A memorial service to honor Donna’s life is planned for early/mid July and will be announced when finalized.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Shine Soup Kitchen at https://shinesoupkitchen.org in Donna’s memory.
