Doris D. Henley - Clemson
Doris Dasher Henley passed on peacefully at home Monday, Oct. 15, 2007. Born near Glennville, GA, she was a daughter of Clara Smiley Dasher and Allen Dasher. At the age of 8 the family moved to Charlotte, NC where she was educated in the public schools and Queens College. She was married in 1937 to John DeWitt Henley of Charlotte. After 40 years of service in four different states with Southern Railway, later Norfolk Southern, they came to retire in Clemson in 1975 where John died in 1996.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being pre-deceased by her parents, sister Ouida Dasher Brown of Charlotte, NC, and two brothers, Julian Dasher of Charlotte and Alva Lee Dasher of Greenwood, SC.
Mrs. Henley was a homemaker who loved cooking, gardening, fishing and her church. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clemson as long as her health permitted, participating in the WMU, Aull -Cole Sunday School Class, and the Keenagers Senior Adult Group. She also participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Clemson, and was a long time member of Fort Hill Garden Club.
Mrs. Henley was a charter member of the Southernettes of Greenville the auxiliary of officers' wives of Southern Railway, and also a member of Greenville Association of Retired and Senior Railroad Employees.
Surviving are one daughter, Sue Henley Weaver and Tom of Charlottesville, VA., two sons, John DeWitt Henley and Gloria of Six Mile, SC and Worth Barber Henley and Beth of Broad Run, VA., three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, Brabston Brown Harper of Charlotte, NC and Linda Dasher Earhardt of Chapin, SC, one nephew Allen Dasher of Charlotte, NC, and one sister-in-law, Florine Hallman Dasher also of Charlotte. Left behind also is Ilse Grube, who was a dear neighbor and friend.
Graveside services will be at 1:30pm Thursday at Old Stone Church Cemetery. Followed by a memorial service at 2pm Thursday and visitation at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
