Dorothy Evans Dean, formerly of Kingsport, TN, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Sterling House of Central, SC, where she had been a resident for seven years.
Mrs. Dean, the daughter of the late William Clarence and Irene Jones Evans, was born in Gatliff, KY on October 15, 1914. She moved to Kingsport, TN with her family in 1930. After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School and Johnson City Business College, she worked at Tennessee Eastman and Holston Defense Corporation, retiring in 1976 after 31 years of service.
Mrs. Dean was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church in Kingsport. She served ten years as treasurer of the Sullivan Baptist Association. Mrs. Dean was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Dean is survived by a son, Ronald L. Dean, and his wife Phyllis of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Marcia Dean Barker, and her husband Jim of Clemson, SC; grandchildren, Jacob Barker and his wife Rita, Britt Barker, and Kathryn Dean Banks and her husband Chad; great-grandchildren, Coleman and Paige Banks; a brother, Raymond M. Evans and his wife Becky of Lenior City, TN; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Evans of Homes, WA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonnie Ellen McFall and Aurelia Haney, and brothers, William D. Evans and Walter J. Evans.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 31 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the gallery of the Sterling House, 131 Vickery Drive, Central, SC.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, TN followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Lynn Garden Baptist Church.
