Dorothy Evelyn Van Buskirk Goudelock, 89, formerly of Burdine Springs and Foothills Presbyterian Home, wife of the late Dr. William Jefferies Goudelock, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010.
Born in Spokane, Washington and raised in Potlatch, Idaho, Mrs. Goudelock was a daughter of the late Guy Elmore and Clara Muhsal Van Buskirk. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in Spokane. During World War II, Mrs. Goudelock was a flight nurse in the U.S. Army Air Corps. She was an RN having worked at Emory University Hospital and later as a private duty nurse.
Mrs. Goudelock was
a member of Easley Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Women of the Church, and she volunteered in the nursery for twenty-five years. She volunteered for Reach to Recovery for twenty-five years, and also for Candy Stripers. Mrs. Goudelock was a cancer survivor for forty years.
Surviving are two sons, David Jefferies Goudelock (Susan) of Alpharetta, GA, and Dr. Gary Morgan Goudelock (Amy) of Easley; a daughter, Clara Louise Goudelock Hutt (Robert Lowell Hutt) of Saluda, NC; a brother, Richard Van Buskirk of Lewiston, Idaho; a son-in-law, James Strawhorn and his wife, Betty, of Simpsonville; six grandchildren, Brian Goudelock, Sean (Aline) Goudelock, Elizabeth Rand (Jeromie) and Diane Henley (Drew), and Sarah Van Reign (Philip) and Rachel Strawhorn; one great-granddaughter, Anna Henley; three step-daughters, Katie and Jenny Schmidt, and Becky (Ewan) Sweeney; one step-son, Danny Schmidt (Alison); one step-grandchild, Alyson Strawhorn, five step-great-grandchildren, Iona, Ewan, and Skye Sweeney and Frank and Virginia Schmidt;a special niece, Chris Cope; a special friend, Anne Goudelock, and a faithful circle of friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Goudelock was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Goudelock Strawhorn; and two sisters, Betty Osgood and Lois Bontrager.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Easley Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
