Dorothy Elizabeth Hibbs Riley passed away December 18 at the age of 100 years. She was born in Easton Kansas in 1923. She was the wife of Harold M. Riley of Holton, Kansas. She was the eldest daughter of seven siblings, six of whom are deceased. The youngest surviving sibling is Benjamin Hibbs of Tucson, Arizona.
Dorothy was the mother of 2 children, Betty Riley Padgett, and James Harold Riley.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Betty Riley Padgett (Greg), of Clemson, and a son, James Harold Riley of Savannah, Ga., granddaughter Meredith L. Padgett of Gastonia, N.C. and a grandson, Matthew R. Padgett (Jordan) of Athens, Ga., three great grandchildren, Allison E. Padgett of Gastonia, N.C., Brenner R. Padgett, and Britton A. Padgett of Athens, Ga.
She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Dietetics.
She moved to East Lansing, Michigan in 1951 and lived there until 2014.
Dorothy received a Masters Degree in Childhood Nutrition from Michigan State University. Her study was conducted in the field in Cali, Colombia, South America. Dorothy traveled extensively around the world with her husband, Harold. She engaged in many community activities. She was the founder of the Lansing Community Art Guild. She was an avid golfer and also an artist producing many art works.
She moved to Clemson, South Carolina in 2014 and lived in Clemson Downs Retirement Center until her death.
Dorothy was a wonderful story teller and very entertaining to all.
