Dorothy R. "Dot" Sams

Dorothy Rice Sams, 75, of 221 North Clemson Avenue and wife of James H. "Jim" Sams, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at An Med Health.
Born in Athens, GA, she was a daughter of the late James and Reba Williamson Rice. Dot was a graduate of St. George, S.C. High School and Georgia State University and was a financial planner. She formerly worked for the Depts. of the Army and Air Force both overseas and in the US, and in her last assignment was involved with military weapon systems acquisitions. She had her own consulting business and also worked for Comprehension Techonolgy Corp. Dot was a former member and officer of the Clemson Rotary Club, and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Victoria Allsep (Jimmy) of Six Mile, S.C. and Wendi Holbrook (Brandon) of Seneca, SC; step-son, Timothy Sams (Maggi) of Charlottesville, VA; step-daughters, Candace Sams of Lorton, VA and Cynthia Saunders (Les) of Marietta, GA; brothers, Sidney Rice of Spartanburg, Franklin Rice of Homossassa, FL and Tony Rice of Hastings, Fl; sisters, Joan Wiseman of Warinton, GA, Dawne Ahlund of Sweden, Rene Wassmer of Pensacola, FL and Guynelle Finlay of Columbia, S.C.; 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Rose Pendarvis.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, January 1st at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central. A private committal service will be held in St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard in Pendleton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30303 or the charity of one's choice.
