Dorothy Ellison Smith, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on February 17, 2009 at her home in Pendleton, South Carolina. She was born on September 24, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio where she lived before retiring to South Carolina. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception parish in Columbus. She was a member of the Carolina Bridge Club, the Anderson Gourmet Club, The Buckeye Club, The Anderson Garden Club, and the Piedmont Investment Club.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James F. Ellison, her sons, Stephen and David Ellison, and her daughter, Laura Jane Ellison. She is survived by her husband, Carew Smith, of Pendleton, South Carolina, her children, Connie Williams of Alexandria, Ohio, Cynthia Ellison of San Antonio, Texas, Debbie Reed of Lago Vista, Texas, James Ellison of Pataskala, Ohio, Christine Wolf of Normandy Park, Washington, Diane Harshbarger of Hilliard, Ohio, Scott Ellison of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jon Ellison of Gahanna, Ohio, Tara Bailey of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, Kyle Smith of London, Ohio and Doak Smith of Grove City, Ohio, their spouses, 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, her siblings, Fred Balthaser, Ruth Croswell, Carol Killilea, and Pat Moore, and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central from 2-4pm Sunday. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
