Dorothy Wheat Spitzer, 88, formerly of Tuscaloosa County, AL, widow of Melvin Spitzer, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Clemson Downs Health Care Center, Clemson, SC.
A native of Tuscaloosa County, AL, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie M. and Maggie Terry Wheat. She was the youngest of five children and the last child to survive.
Dorothy was an Administrative Assistant for the Social Security Office in Kansas City, Missouri. She was an impeccable seamstress and homemaker. After Mr. and Mrs. Spitzer retired in Kansas City, they moved back to Nortport, AL which was always her special home. She was a faithful member of Five Points Baptist Church in Northport until she became disabled.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Her caregivers were two nieces, Mrs. Gayle Lovette of Clemson, SC and Mrs. Gwyn Decker of Florence, Oregon.
Graveside services will be 12 noon, Monday, March 2, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Park, Northport, AL.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sunset Funeral Home and Crematory, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, AL 35473.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd. Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
