Dorsey Edward Greer, Sr., 80, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Easley on April 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Dorcey Alexander Greer and Edna Brown Greer. A life long resident of Easley, Dorsey graduated from Easley High School in 1956. He was a former textile league baseball player with Glenwood Mill.
Dorsey was employed with Hoescht Celanese for 26 years. He continued his textile career with Hurley and Harrison for 15 years before retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Brown Greer; his children, Eddie Greer and his wife Pam; Katrena Greer Wilkie; and Alex Greer and his wife Christy; his grandchildren, Charlie Greer (Maggie); Jake Greer and fiancée Tori Bethay; Hadley Greer; Lexi Greer; and Greer Wilkie; and a special family friend, Jan Hice.
Dorsey was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Jane Ann Greer. He was also predeceased by his best friend and greatest dog ever, Archie.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of McCall Hospice House and the 5th floor nurses at Greenville Memorial Hospital for the care and support shown during his illnesses. A special thank you to Dr. Patrick Culumovic, his partners and staff at Greenville Colon and Rectal Surgery for the many kindnesses shown during the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House or the Pickens County Humane Society.
