Dorthy Ann Cantrell

Dorthy Ann Cantrell, a beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at the age of 80. 

Born on January 27, 1946, in Easley, South Carolina, Dorthy was a cherished daughter of the late Jake Howard Sr. and Bessie Gilstrap Howard. She brought warmth and love into the lives of everyone who knew her. 

Dorthy will be remembered as a devoted Christian who dedicated her life to serving God and her community, often seen imparting wisdom as a Sunday School Teacher. Her selfless nature and nurturing spirit made her a mother who truly poured her heart into caring for her children: Carol Leslie of Pickens, SC, Danny Shelton of Columbus, OH, Donnie Shelton of Columbia, SC, Timothy Shelton of Cleveland, TN, and Jay Cantrell of Cleveland, TN. 

Dorthy loved her family fiercely and made sure they always felt supported and loved. She also loved to share humor with her daughter-in-law, Hannah. 

A lover of life's simple joys, Dorthy enjoyed cooking delicious meals, exploring flea markets and yard sales, and continuing her education through college coursework. Her kindness and listening ear left a lasting impact on everyone she met, and she will be dearly missed. 

In addition to her mother and father, Dorthy is preceded in death by her husband Don Cantrell; siblings: Bruce Howard, Rhul Howard, Paul Howard, Betsie Howard Price, Bill Howard, Jake Howard Jr., and Nancy Howard. 

She is survived by her sister, Martha Howard Shelton of Pickens, SC. 

Dorthy's family will honor her memory with a celebration of life service planned for April 18, 2026, at 3 PM, held at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in sharing cherished memories and stories that reflect the beautiful life Dorthy lived.
