Doyle Richard Porter, born April 6, 1941, passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 84. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Doyle leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Doyle was born and raised in Greenville, growing up in several of the city’s historic mill villages. These early years helped shape his strong work ethic, deep sense of community, and lifelong appreciation for simple, meaningful living.
Doyle honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962. Following his military service, he joined the Greenville City Police Department, where he served with distinction from 1964 until his retirement in 1982 as a lieutenant.
Beyond his career in law enforcement, Doyle was a successful business leader and a published author. He owned and operated Pocketful of Miracles, Inc. with his late wife, Pamela. Doyle wrote a few books, with Wildflowers Among the Cotton Seeds being his favorite as he reminisced about his childhood growing up in mill villages.
Doyle is survived by his children, Brian Porter (Debbie), Michelle Johnson (Danny), and Tracy Brady (Scott); his beloved grandchildren, Emily Mullinax (Andy), Lori Porter, Josh Porter, Caden Johnson, Misty Hudson (JT), Matthew Payne, and Mason Payne; his sister, Grace Satterfield (Carl); and his brother, David Porter (Ann). He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Porter, parents DeWitt and Eleanor Porter, and his brothers, James Porter and William Porter (Fran).
Doyle’s legacy is one of service, strength, and quiet devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private family celebration of life will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a veterans' organization or a charity of your choice in Doyle’s memory.
