Dr. Don "Doc" Frederick Keller, 87, of Easley, South Carolina, loving husband of Martha Webb Keller, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Born on September 20, 1938, in Sikeston, Missouri, he was the son of the late Ira and Irmabelle Davis Keller. Dr. Keller made significant contributions to the field of education and counseling throughout his storied career. Dr. Keller embarked on his educational journey at Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business in 1962, followed by a Master's Degree in Counseling in 1968. His academic pursuits culminated in a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and Counseling from Indiana University in 1973. Dr. Keller's career began at Oran Junior High School in Missouri, where he served as a teacher and coach from 1962 to 1965. He then transitioned to Jackson High School from 1965 to 1969, taking on the role of Vocational Coordinator, before moving to Western Kentucky University as an Instructor of Psychology from 1969 to 1971. In 1973, Dr. Keller joined Clemson University in South Carolina, where he became a professor in Counselor Education, dedicating over three decades to educating and mentoring future counselors before his retirement in 2006. After his tenure at Clemson, he continued his teaching career at Anderson University until his retirement in 2012. In addition to his formal teaching roles, Dr. Keller was actively involved in the broader community, working in Pastoral Care at Baptist Easley Hospital and owning Directions Incorporated Counseling Clinic from 1976 to 2000. Dr. Keller's impact on the educational community was further recognized through his leadership roles, including serving as President of the South Carolina School Counselor Association and as a President of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was also proud to be an honorary member of the Block C Club at Clemson University. He proudly served in the US Navy and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, he is survived by a son, Paul Keller (Jennifer); a daughter, Natalie Keller (Michael Hunt); five grandchildren, John Paul Keller, Elisabeth Ann Keller, Emily Cathcart (Joel), Ariana Keller, and Xavier Keller Grant; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Cathcart; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Kleier.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, GySgt. Keith Keller; and a sister, Ann Kem.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Burial will follow the service in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road.
