Dr. Gordon Lewis

Dr. Gordon Lewis, 90, of Easley, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. 

 

Dr. Lewis was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late H. Weldon Lewis and the late Dora Kropp Lewis. He was also predeceased by a sister, Judy Simpson. Dr. Lewis obtained his bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering and earned his PhD in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University in Alfred, New York. He completed his post – doctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas - Lawrence. He was a former professor at the University of Missouri - Rolla and retired as the Department Head of Ceramic Engineering at Clemson University.  He was active member at Seneca Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and an Adult Sunday School Teacher. Dr. Lewis was also a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge.

 

In his spare time, Dr. Lewis enjoyed hunting and fishing. He found solace in the great outdoors and was very knowledgeable about antique guns. He was also extremely involved in genealogy. Dr. Lewis also enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

Left to cherish the memories of Dr. Lewis are his loving wife, Helen Eddy Lewis; his son, Michael Gordon Lewis (Karen); two daughters, Julie Lewis Rhoads (Jack) and Mary Lewis Bowen (Tom); four grandchildren, Tom Bowen, Krista Lewis, Taylor Lewis, and Cody Lewis.

 

A memorial service to honor Dr. Lewis’s life will be held at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for donations made to the Alfred University Scholarship Endowment of Dr. Gordon Lewis (checks should be made out to Alfred University and the memo should say Honoring Gordon Lewis); mail check to: Att.
