Dr. James A. Eidson, 88, died January 18, 2025. He was born November 17, 1936 in Johnston, SC to the late James and Gertrude Tucker Eidson.
In youth, Dr. Eidson was dedicated to Future Farmers of America and Boy Scouts of America, giving him the opportunity to travel the world, meet US presidents and the Pope and earn the top rank of Eagle Scout.
Dr. Eidson received an undergraduate degree from Clemson University and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. He retired as owner of Clemson Animal Hospital in 2003. He was a member of the SC Association of Veterinarians, served in many offices including President in 1990, and received the Distinguished Veterinarian Award in 2003. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and AVMA of Retired Veterinarians.
Dr. Eidson was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder, Chairman of Building and Grounds, and member of the Building Committee. He was a Charter Member of the Clemson Calhoun Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Clemson Fellowship Club, Pendleton Woodworkers and Foothills Antiques Club where he served as President.
Dr. Eidson was predeceased by his devoted wife of 45 years, Jane Taylor, his son John and his daughter-in-law Joanne.
Dr. Eidson is survived by his loving wife, Judith Kline; son James L. Eidson of Sumter, SC; daughter Jean Eidson MacNeil (Wade) of Charlotte, NC; siblings Trudy Lewis of Thomson, GA and Albert Eidson of Johnston, SC; grandsons Alexander and Cameron Eidson, and Breton and Brodie MacNeil.
A memorial service will be held in Fort Hill Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2025. Memorials may be made to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 Edgewood Ave, Clemson, SC 29631.
