Dueain Ida Byers, 87, of Pickens, loving wife of Lester Cole Byers, passed away on December 17, 2023.
Born on March 2, 1936, in Seneca, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Jesse G. and Marvin Jane Seaborn Dyar. Dueain's life was filled with love, faith, and dedication. From an early age, Dueain discovered her passion for the simple joys of life. She found solace in canning and had a remarkable talent for nurturing a bountiful vegetable garden. Her home was always adorned with jars of preserved pickles, jams, and vegetables that she lovingly shared with family and friends. But it was not only in the kitchen or garden that Dueain's light shone brightly; it was in her role as a wife and mother that she truly excelled. She was a wonderful wife whose steadfast love and unwavering support buoyed her husband through the many seasons of life. Her dedication to their marriage created an unbreakable bond that served as an inspiration to all who knew them. As a mother, Dueain poured her heart and soul into raising her children with love and strong values. Her boys were constantly reminded of the importance of faith and cherished every moment spent together as a family. Dueain's guidance kept them on the right path and instilled in them a deep belief in the power of love and God's grace. Dueain's commitment to her church community was unwavering. A member of Free Wesleyan Church, she found solace in her faith and drew strength from it throughout her life. Her presence at Sunday services brought joy to those around her, and her devotion inspired others to deepen their own relationship with God. One of Dueain's most endearing qualities was her ability to listen without judgment or interruption. Friends sought solace in her empathetic ear, finding comfort knowing they could confide in someone who genuinely cared. Dueain provided not only guidance but also a true understanding of the struggles and joys that life brings. She will always be remembered as more than just a mother; she was a momma. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her own children to include all those who crossed her path. She had a unique ability to make others feel seen, loved, and valued.
In addition to her husband of 69 years, she is survived by five children, Lane Byers (Kim), Dale Byers (Jeanne), David Byers (Tammy), Mark Byers (Sherry), and Vonnie Warden (Victor); a sister, Julia Huskcamp; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, William Dyar, Joel Dyar, Frank Dyar, and Wade Dyar; and six sisters, Jessie Lee Jennings, Eunice Longworth, Ruth Wald, Omega Kelley, Wilma Dyar, and Virgil Ann Dyar.
