Isaac Dwaine Eubanks

Isaac Dwaine Eubanks, 79, passed away unexpectedly July 23, 2018 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in San Angelo, TX, Dr. Eubanks earned both a B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a research chemist for du Pont and subsequently a faculty member at Oklahoma State University where he reached the rank of full professor. He was selected to direct the American Chemical Society Exams Institute. Dwaine and his wife, Lucy were invited to relocate the Institute to Clemson University where they also served as faculty. He retired from Clemson in 2003. In 2016, he was selected to lead Clemson's Emeritus College.
Dwaine served as an active and well-respected volunteer in many areas of chemical education. He served as chair for both the Division of Chemical Education of ACS and the local Western Carolinas Section. He also served on the national ACS Council for 15 years. His passion for education and leadership was demonstrated through his service on three major ACS curricular projects.
A lifelong learner, Dwaine was a true Renaissance man, enjoying many hobbies and activities. He was an instrument rated pilot with thousands of hours of flight time for both business and pleasure. He also enjoyed sailing and served as Commodore of the Keowee Sailing Club. He chaired the advisory board of the Oscher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). He immersed himself in many cultures through his international travels. He enjoyed SCUBA diving, wood-working, graphic design, ornithology, architecture, and nature walks. Above all, he enjoyed quality time spent with his wife, numerous friends, and family. And pecans with everything.
Dwaine is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lucy; two daughters, Elizabeth Sonnenfeld, of Tulsa, OK and Rebecca Stockum, of Dallas, TX; a son, Charles Eubanks, of Dallas, TX; a sister, Darnell Holden, of Ballinger, TX; and several grandchildren, including Michelle Sonnenfeld of Falls Church, VA and Robert Sonnenfeld, of Arlington, VA.
He was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Faye Eubanks.
Services will be held at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 27, 2018. Interment will be at The Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 10:45AM.
