E. Weldon Childress

E. Weldon Childress, 85, husband of Joanne Gilstrap Childress, of Easley and most recently of The Haven in Greenville, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

He was born in Pickens County to Thomas and Frances Jones Childress on December 15, 1928. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, and he was the owner and CEO of Dixie Tool, Inc., a business he started in 1964. He was a past member and officer of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a former member of the Lion's Club. Mr. Childress was a member of Easley First Baptist Church. His passions were spending time with his family, his work, and spending time on Lake Keowee, where he was an avid boater, and where he could see his beloved family home place, Table Rock.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Joanne, survivors include a daughter, Karen Stephens (Randy) of Easley, SC, and a son, Jeff Childress (Delaine) of Seneca, SC; four grandchildren, Katie Shayda (Mark) of James Island, SC, Meg Stephens of Easley, SC, Emory Childress of Seneca, SC, and Georgia Childress of Seneca, SC; one great granddaughter, Eloise Shayda; and three sisters, Julia Hyler, Eleanor Martin, and Inez Owens.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by three brothers, Lynn, John, and David Childress, and two sisters, Sara Beth Reid, and Doris Simmons.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Easley First Baptist Church, 300 East First Avenue, Easley, SC with the Rev. Dr. John Adams and the Rev. Judy Frost officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM Thursday. A private committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family is at the residence at 107 Lakeview Drive, Easley, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Easley First Baptist Church, 300 East First Avenue, Easley, SC 29640, or the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at The Haven in Greenville, and the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca for their great level of care and compassion in the last season of Weldon's life.
