E. G. (Buddy) Sparks died June 18, 2008.

He was born, March 27, 1925 in Pacolet Mills, SC, the son of John Olin and Elise Sprouse Sparks.

He proudly served in the US Army Infantry during WWII. He graduated from Clemson College in 1949 and Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University in 1962. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson and Clemson Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

His banking career began at Liberty National Bank, Cedartown, Georgia. He served as President and Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Fort Benning, GA, was a past President of the Georgia Bankers Association, and retired from C & S Bank in Clemson. He also served as a city judge in Clemson.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hazel Blythe Sparks; sons, John Sparks and wife Jan of Pickens, SC, and James Sparks of Greenville; a daughter, Beth Sparks Batson and husband, Phil, of Anderson, SC; and grandchildren, Laura Elise Sparks and Jackson Walter Sparks.

Memorial services will be 12 noon, Saturday at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church with a reception following in Tartan Hall.
Private committal services will be held in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
