Eddie Gene Hicks, 83, of Liberty, South Carolina, loving husband of Linda Turner Hicks, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Born in Ninety-Six, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Gainow and Nellie Hicks. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose vibrant spirit and warmth touched the lives of many. Eddie worked in the HVAC industry for Action Services, where he became not just a skilled technician, but a trusted friend to those who knew him. His commitment to his craft was evident in every job he undertook, each project bearing witness to his unparalleled work ethic and attention to detail. Yet, it was not only his craftsmanship that garnered admiration; it was his effervescent personality, brightening even the darkest of days. Eddie possessed a remarkable ability to light up a room, effortlessly drawing people in with his infectious laughter and down-to-earth charisma.
Though his career was commendable, it paled in comparison to his devotion to family, especially to his beloved wife. Together, they shared countless moments, building a life rich with love and joy. Eddie’s heart pulsed with affection not only for her, but for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings became a vibrant celebration as he reveled in the company of those he cherished most, recounting stories that would enkindle laughter and spark nostalgia.
Nature called to Eddie's adventurous spirit, and he answered with a profound love for vacationing at the beach and in the mountains—sanctuaries where he could breathe in the beauty of the world around him. The outdoors was his playground, a realm where he could tinker endlessly with his tractors and find joy in the simplicity of building and creating. Each project he embarked upon, whether on a tractor or a home improvement task, was an extension of his extraordinary ability to fix anything, both physically and emotionally.
Eddie’s gentle hands and kind heart were always at work, dutifully addressing the honey-do list that his wife held dear. His unwavering support and commitment to family and home became the foundation upon which they all flourished, instilling in them the values of hard work, love, and devotion.
In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by five children, Gene Hicks (Pamela), Kayli Linette Stewart, Katherine Smith (Clinton), Stacy Emond (Marc), and Lisa Hicks; ten grandchildren, Christopher Hicks, Joshua Hicks, Kenneth Eddie Dowell, Dillon Steven Nye, Ashley Linette Marks, Shane Clinton Smith, Taylor Nicole Bryant, Gabriel Edward Thomas Emond, Hunter Luke Holcombe, and Bailey McKenzie Hicks; and ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nathaniel Dowell, and Amanda Katherine Smith; and ten siblings, Reva Hicks Faison, Avielean Hicks Stone, Ruth Hicks Hammonds, Edith Hicks Gentry, Billy Leroy Hicks, Charles T. Hicks, Jerry A. Hicks, Betty Hicks Shirley, Joie Hicks Burgess, and Janice Hicks Stephens.
