Eddie Stephens, 65, husband of Kim Cantrell Stephens, passed away on February 4, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his loving family
Born in Greenville, SC, a son of the late Raymond Rastus Stephens and Katherine Lucile Cox Stephens, Eddie was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. Eddie grew up in Dacusville and graduated from Pickens High School in 1974. Eddie found great value and enjoyment in his work. His career in Heating/Air and Commercial Refrigeration utilized Eddie's strong mechanical and problem-solving skills in his employment with Owens Carolina, Smith's Heating and Air, and Whaley Food Service. Eddie was a faithful member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church and The Fishers of Men Sunday School Class. He professed a sincere love for God and an unshakeable faith. Eddie took great delight in his time at the Greer Dragway; he loved all things involved in racing as a driver, car owner, spectator, and life-long fan. Eddie loved his family and friends—especially the men in his Sunday School class. Eddie always enjoyed working with his hands and using his skills to help others. Eddie dearly loved his "fur babies," Bella, Buffy, Bogey, Lady, and Bree, and these dogs loved Eddie.
In addition to his wife, Eddie is survived by one son, Andy Stephens (Paige) and one grandson, Weston. He is also survived by his children by marriage: Sean Porter (Lindsay), Chris Porter (Brittany), Jennifer Porter Howard (Josh) and grandchildren Will Porter, Whitney Porter, Wrynn Porter, Wrylee Porter, Reece Porter, Blake Porter, Banks Porter, and Bruce Howard.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his half-brother, Thomas L. Hendricks.
Showing his strength of character and spirit, Eddie outlived his prognosis from the diagnosis of inoperable pancreatic cancer. Eddie maintained a good attitude and faced his declining health with admirable courage, steadfast grace, and a constant concern for others.
