Edgar O. Mehlman

Salem, SC – Edgar O. Mehlman, 80, husband of Jean Parr Mehlman, passed away at home after a period of declining health on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born in Martins Ferry, OH, on October 26, 1942, the son of the late Otto and Marjorie Rogers Mehlman.

Ed grew up in Bridgeport, OH.  He graduated from Ohio University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and from Ohio State University with an MS in Electrical Engineering.  He and Jean met at Ohio State and they were married on December 19, 1970.  Early in Ed’s career he worked as an engineer for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY.  He then worked for Babcock & Wilcox in Alliance, OH.  He retired after working 20 years for Michelin North America in Greenville, SC.

After Ed retired, he and Jean built their home on Lake Keowee.  Ed enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, tinkering with electronics, and spending time with his family.

Ed is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Jennifer Carbrey and her husband, Craig, and Karen Jackson and her husband, Mark; and four grandchildren, Hugh Carbrey, Ella Carbrey, Cooper Jackson, and Delaney Jackson.  He is also survived by his sister, Carole Kyser; and niece, Andrea McLane. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Thomas Kyser, and nephew Timothy Kyser.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 11, at University Lutheran Church, 111 Sloan St., Clemson, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 AM.  At 3:00 PM on Saturday, he will be interred in the columbarium at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1100 Log Shoals Road, Mauldin, SC.  Guests are invited to join the Mehlman family for the interment.
