Edith E. Newton, 91, widow of David Newton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Oconee Medical Center. Born in Pickens, SC on April 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Jason M. and Nancy Jones Entrekin. Mrs. Newton was a graduate of Six Mile High School and Ashville Normal Teachers College. She began her career as a teacher and later retired from the Pickens County School Lunch Program. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Central.
She is survived by a son, Alton Newton and his wife Dawn of Central; a daughter, Nancy Looney and her husband Tommy of Central; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sisters, Mildred E. Greene of Seneca, Juanita E. Duncan of Charleston and Lou E. Nations of Winston-Salem, NC. She was predeceased by a son, Herbert H. Newton, sister, Era E. Raines, and brother, Herbert F. Entrekin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22 at 2pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Marshal Rampey and Dr. Bob Black officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2pm Monday prior to the service.
