Edith Simmons Raines, 77, formerly of Banks Road, wife of the late Jack Leroy Raines, passed on to her Lord on Sunday, August 19, 2007, at the McCall House of Open Arms Hospice.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Furman Oscar and Clara Trotter Simmons, Mrs. Raines and was an active member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Dacusville until her health failed and she was unable to attend.

Surviving are a son, Kennth L. Raines and his wife, Jean, of Powdersville; two grandchildren, Lee Raines of Powdersville, and Heather Streater and her husband W.K. of Lyman; four great-grandchildren, Racheal Raines, Kas Streater, Sam Raines, Mason Streater; four devoted sisters, Margaret Holder of Dacusville, Carol Plumblee and her husband Bennett of Travelers Rest, Jean Cox and her husband Jim of Taylors, Colleen McAlister and her husband Charles of Easley; and two brothers, Curtis Simmons and his wife Helen of Union, and Hal Simmons and his wife Jo of Greenville. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Raines was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Simmons; and a sister, Lois S. McRee and her husband, Charles McRee.

The family would like to thank the staff of the McCall Hospice House for their love and support during her brief stay.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.

Honorary escort will be the Glen Williams Sunday School Class of Cross Roads Baptist Church.

The family is at the home of her son, 102 Lantern Ridge Drive in Powdersville.

Edith will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
