Edmee Havenga (b. May, 30, 1923, d. December 22, 2006)
On Friday, December 22, 2006, Edmee Marie (Mamlouk) Havenga, 83, passed away at the Hospice of the Upstate. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Mamlouk of Alexandria, Egypt. Known to her family and friends as Dede, she was born and raised in Alexandria, educated in France, and gracefully spoke five languages.
Dede spent the initial years of her fifty-year marriage to the late Owen Roy Havenga in his native South Africa before the couple, with their two children, emigrated to the United States by special permission of First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. They lived in eight different states along the Eastern Seaboard before retiring first to the coast of North Carolina and then to the Upstate.
Dede is survived by her devoted daughter Annemarie (Havenga) Jacques, Annemarie's husband John Jacques and her loving granddaughter Arianne Jacques who reside in the Upstate. Her brother and his wife, Michel and Maria Mamlouk of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, her sister, Hugette Mamlouk of Stephens City, VA, and her many nieces and nephews mourn the passing of their dear sister and aunt.
In addition to her husband Roy, Dede is predeceased by their son, the late Derrick Havenga of Bakersfield, CA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Memory Gardens, Clemson, SC.
