Edna E. Gordon Collins

Edna Echols Gordon Collins, 101, of Clemson died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the home of her daughter.
A native of Wilkes County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Richard Perry and Hassie Norman Echols. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Jay Gordon and Harry E. Collins; sisters, Ruby Echols Metcalf and Christine Echols Gordon; brothers, Frank, Ralph, George, Eugene, Clifford, Fred and Jack Echols.
Mrs. Collins is survived by one daughter, Donna Gordon of Clemson, SC; two grandsons, Jon McCall (Sherri) of Charleston, SC and Jay McCall of Houston, TX; two great-grandsons, Seth McCall and Elias McCall of Charleston, SC; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella McCall of Houston, TX; and a number of special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Collins was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church. She graduated from Young Harris College, Young Harris, GA in 1932. Her love of Young Harris was apparent to all who knew her because she delighted in sharing stories of what it was like attending college during the Depression and of her great love of playing basketball.
Her love of handwork and craft projects showed as she developed a love of making bookmarks. She eagerly shared her love for each family member as she made a special bookmark for each one.
Mrs. Collins lived in Brevard, NC from 1954-1969 and taught school there for several years. She moved back to Wilkes Co., GA and retired from teaching in Washington, GA in 1978. Before moving to Clemson in 1999, she lived in Greenwood, SC.
Mrs. Collins family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Medi-Home Hospice of Seneca, SC and Dr. Billy Campbell for their kind and loving care during her last years. They not only loved and cared for her but nurtured and cared for our family as well.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Friday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central with Dr. Keith Ray and Dr. Rick Standard officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory on Highway 64, Pisgah Forest, NC at 11 AM, Saturday with Rev. Megan Augustine officiating.
